Official Amherst Contacts

Amherst County Busted Mugshots is a private reference site, not a government office. It cannot verify present custody, release anyone, post bond, or obtain official booking records. Contact the public office that holds the specific record for an authoritative answer.

Records and Custody Contacts

Use the office connected to the record type. Amherst County has separate arresting-agency, regional-jail, and court custodians, so a concise request that identifies the person, date, and record sought is more useful than a broad inquiry.

434-946-9381
Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Amherst County Adult Detention Center / BRRJA:

Start with the correct source for the question.

  • For current local adult custody, use the official ACADC/BRRJA locator or contact the facility for direction.
  • For a booking record or adult intake record held by BRRJA, use its FOIA route.
  • For a Sheriff-created incident or arrest record, use the Sheriff FOIA contact above.
  • For a Town of Amherst record, use the Town FOIA page or Amherst Police Department at 434-946-7874 during normal business hours.
  • For a case outcome, use Virginia case information or the appropriate court clerk.
  • For a person in state custody or supervision, start with the VADOC locator; federal or immigration custody requires the relevant BOP or ICE system.

The county records page explains the official fallback sequence when the current-custody locator is unavailable. A warrant concern is procedural and belongs with the court, Sheriff, or a licensed attorney, as outlined under Wanted Fugitives.
